Versatile Mild Steel in Machine Shop Applications

Flat Bar

Flat bar in mild steel is often used for fixtures, brackets and braces where straightness is important. It machines easily and can be drilled, tapped, milled and bent as needed. Stock up in various cross-sections and lengths.

Sheet Metal

Mild steel sheet is excellent for making ductwork, small enclosures, guards and other thin gauge parts. It cuts and forms cleanly using shears, brakes or rollers. Opt for 18 gauge or thicker for sturdier applications.

Angle Iron

With straight flanges joined at a 90° angle, angle iron lends itself to frames, jigs and other structurally sound projects. The rigidity and welded seams make parts very durable. Stock 1-1/2" or 2" sizes.

Channel Iron

Like angle iron but with an open center, channel finds use as edging, fencing or to reinforce other mild steel pieces through welding. Usefully rigid while also reducing overall weight compared to solid bar stock.

Round Bar

Whether turned on a lathe or used "as is," round bar serves as pins, bolts, handles and other cylindrical parts. Dimensional accuracy makes specifying diameters easy down to the thousandth of an inch.

Mild steel offers machinists a cost-effective, versatile material for fabricating fixtures, jigs, small parts and more. Stock up on assorted shapes to complete a variety of shop projects.
