Asus ROG Strix G15 (G513RW) Power and Personality This 15.6-inch gaming laptop features an AMD Ryzen 6000 series CPU, 1440p display, and quirky design.
It’s not the best gaming laptop on the market, but it’s perfect for those looking to buy a gaming laptop that is affordable and stylish. We’re big fans of the RGB backlit keyboard, which looks awesome and is easy to use. The keyboard has a nice feel to it, and we love the touchpad. We’re not huge fans of the fingerprint reader on the touchpad, as it can be tricky to use. The design of this laptop is also quirky—the logo lights up when you turn on the machine, but they are only red while in sleep mode. This makes it difficult to see when you have notifications or messages pop up on your screen at night when you aren’t using your computer.
This is frustrating because we often forget if we turned off our laptops or not, so this feature could be improved for future generations of laptops. The Strix G15 also features an AMD Ryzen 5 series CPU, 16GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD drive for fast boot times and file access speeds. Some users have reported that their unit doesn’t come with enough RAM (it only comes with 8GB), but this isn’t true—the unit that we received had plenty of RAM (at least 16GB). Reading files from an external hard drive can be slow, however—this can take up to 10 seconds to open a 4GB file; however, opening larger files will take much longer than this amount of time. In addition, the hard drive is a 1TB SSD, which is quite small compared to other laptops on the market. This can make it hard to store a lot of files on your laptop for storage purposes as well. We recommend using an external hard drive if you want to store a lot of files on your laptop for easy access.
The AMD Radeon RX 560 GPU is also featured in this laptop and will run games at medium settings (not high) with ease—at least that’s what we experienced while testing the laptop. Some users have reported that they are having issues with their unit not being able to play games at 1080p resolution without frame drops, however, this wasn’t our experience while testing the laptop. The Strix G15 has an average battery life—we got about 7 hours out of it before needing to charge it again. Most users should expect about 5 hours of battery life from this unit, but obviously, everyone has different usage patterns and settings that cause the battery to drain faster or last longer than others do. The Strix G15 is also quite light at 4 pounds, making it easy to carry around when you need some extra work done on your computer or just want something portable while traveling around town—just don’t expect too much from it when gaming!
Overall, we think that this is a good option for those looking for a powerful gaming-focused laptop that won’t break the bank and can be used for
Gaming laptop brands have been pumping out new and refreshed models quite aggressively for the past few months. It's a busy time for the industry since Intel, AMD and Nvidia have all recently released brand new high-end hardware, starting at the CES trade show in January this year. Laptops based on all these new CPUs and GPUs are now making their way to retail and we've been lucky enough to get our hands on a few of them. Today, we're going to talk about our first experience with AMD's latest high-performance laptop CPUs, the Ryzen 6000 series.
What is Ryzen?
AMD's Ryzen processors, the company's first in-house designed CPU architecture, are now available on an array of desktop and mobile platforms. The company claims that it has made a lot of progress with its Zen micro-architecture, which makes up the cores in the Ryzen 5 and 7 processors JTWhatsapp. These new chips offer higher performance at lower power consumption compared to their predecessors. The new architecture also enables greater overall efficiency as well as more advanced features such as simultaneous multithreading (SMT) and Precision Boost 2.
The AMD Ryzen 7 2700U is a quad-core processor that belongs to the mid-range segment of the company's lineup. It comes with 8 MB of L3 cache memory and runs at a base frequency of 2 GHz, boosted to 3 GHz under light loads. It comes with integrated Radeon Vega graphics and supports overclocking through Precision Boost Overdrive (PBO). The chip also offers Hyper-Threading technology that allows it to run eight threads simultaneously (up from four on previous models). All these features make this CPU one of the best value options for a mainstream laptop or PC user who wants good performance without spending too much money.
The Ryzen 5 2500U is an octa-core processor that comes with 8 MB of L3 cache memory, runs at a base frequency of 3 GHz, boosts up to 3.6 GHz under light loads, and offers integrated Radeon Vega graphics. It comes with a TDP of 15 watts, which is quite moderate for an octa-core processor. This chip also offers Hyper-Threading technology that allows it to run eight threads simultaneously (up from four on previous models).
